The Free Market Isn’t Free—It’s Rigged. Time to Level the Field.

The next step is foreign trade and leveling that field!

The idea of a “free market” has long been held up as the gold standard for economic prosperity—a system where supply and demand determine prices, innovation thrives, and everyone has a fair shot. But let’s be honest: the so-called free market in the U.S. is far from free. It’s tilted in favor of those with capital, connections, and power.

In theory, a free market should reward innovation, competition, and individual effort. But in practice, it often rewards consolidation, political lobbying, and financial manipulation. Large corporations benefit from regulatory favoritism, tax loopholes, and disproportionate influence over policy. Meanwhile, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and everyday workers are expected to operate by the book—with little support, less access, and far greater risk.

This isn’t a failure of capitalism itself—it’s the result of a rigged system disguised as a free one.

To level the playing field, we need structural reforms that restore balance and opportunity:

  • Support small and midsize businesses with access to capital, fair tax policies, and procurement opportunities.

  • Enforce antitrust laws to prevent monopolies from stifling innovation and competition.

  • Invest in public goods like infrastructure, broadband, and education, so every American can participate in the modern economy.

  • Rein in financialization that rewards speculation over real value creation.

A truly free market isn't one where the biggest players write the rules. It’s one where new ideas can flourish, hard work is rewarded, and upward mobility is possible—regardless of where you start.

The U.S. economy doesn’t need to be scrapped—it needs to be recalibrated. Let’s stop pretending that the invisible hand will fix a system rigged by the visible grip of wealth and power. It’s time to build an economy that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.
